The Wanstead Flats are undoubtedly one of the best things about living in Forest Gate. Having them on our doorstep is a privilege and we like to make the most of it! Exercising together in the great outdoors is at the heart of WFF. There's a solid evidence base for the mental and physical health benefits of exercising socially in groups and in nature: levels of perceived exertion are lower, motivation increased, stress-levels reduced and energy-levels boosted.

Our ethos is different to other outdoor exercise groups. The environment is supportive and encouraging, whatever your level of fitness.

Our collective was born out of a corporate bootcamp folding on the Wanstead Flats. A group of us had been attending and training together for years and didn't want the journey to end. There were limited options locally and none of us could face joining a gym. We loved exercising outside together.

For the first couple of months we just kept turning up at the usual session times and different members of the group would lead a workout, whilst we decided what our next steps would be. We managed to set up our not-for-profit fitness collective and train together inclusively and affordably. We run our sessions all year round come rain or shine. We're about community spirit and commitment rather than contracts and joining fees.
