We met local botanical gin guru Owen a few years ago when he launched his back garden gin distillery Gaslight Gin outta East Ham and approached us to stock his radical yet quintessentially traditional tipple at our station Tracks. We love investing in the local supply chain and supporting small business by like-minded souls so when we sampled the amazing aromatics of it's floral flavour it was a no-brainer. You may have also sampled in our Gaslight Gin-based 'Forest Garden' cocktail concoction last year or even via our Christmas hampers a couple of years ago with the Gaslight Gin infused handcrafted chocolates mmm....

As well as supplying to Tracks and his local The Boleyn Tavern, you may have also seen him out'n'about as he popped up down our station strip last summer for our arch market plus you can indulge in a Gaslight G&T tipple from the comforts of your own home as he does deliveries straight to your door! Which reminds me we need a top-up for the summer season...

Here's how his home E6 environ has inspired his Gaslight Gin Distillery:

"Having previously lived in Hackney since 2001, my first voyage further East (the *real* East London OBV) was about 10 years ago to watch a mysterious football team called Clapton FC. Me & my friends had heard rumours of smoke bombs and anarchist chants fuelled by Polish lager and after my first visit to Forest Gate's Old Spotted Dog ground, I fell in love with the area!

I got my distilling licences in 2015 and moved to East Ham 2 years later. I commercially launched Gaslight Distillery in 2019 from the workshop, in my garden. As the only distillery in the borough for nearly 80 years, I definitely feel proud to be representing the area! In fact, the name Gaslight is partly an ode to East London's gin palaces of the 1830's, which were some of the first commercial buildings in the UK to be lit by gas, rather than oil or candle light.

We also produce our London Dry Gin, limited seasonal editions and cocktails using as many locally produced or sourced ingredients - including hand-foraged botanicals from Wanstead Park and local allotments.

Newham has such a huge community spirit with everyone helping each other and the support for my distillery from its residents and other local business owners has been such a blessing. As the saying goes, 'When one rises, we all rise!'"

So shop small and support your local East Ham artisan!
